Amid declining Covid-19 cases and swift rollout of vaccines, Indian Railways is planning to resume operations of a number of train services in a phased manner. As part of the exercise, a few halted train services may be revived in the moths to come.

The Guntur–Kacheguda-Guntur air-conditioned (AC) Double-Decker Express of the South Central Railways zone, which was run on a bi-weekly basis before the train services were stopped in March last year for Covid-19 lockdown, is scheduled to be restarted from April 1, if reports are to be believed.

According to TV9 Telugu report, Guntur–Kacheguda AC Double Decker Express will start its first journey after the lockdown on April 1 at 7 pm from Guntur and reach Kacheguda at 9.45 am. It will pass through via Narasaraopet, Vinukonda, Markapuram, Giddaluru, Nandyala, Don, Kurnool City, Jogulamba Gadwala, Vanaparthi Road, Mahabubnagar, Jadcharla and Shadnagar.

It is to be noted that Indian Railways has been running special trains to facilitate the movement of passengers but has not resumed 100% operations which it hopes to revive in the next few months.

Train services were halted last year as authorities tried to control the spread of Covid-19 through public transport. International air travel also remains banned, however, some flights are operational under Vande Bharat Mission and air bubble arrangements.

There are currently eight double-decker trains in the country, Chennai-Bangalore Double Decker Express, Lucknow Junction-Anand Vihar Terminal Double Decker Express, Jaipur-Delhi Sarai Rohilla AC Double Decker Express, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus-Madgaon AC Double Decker Express, Visakhapatnam-Tirupati Double Decker Express, and Mumbai-Surat Flying Ranee Double Decker Express.
