GUNTUR: A second year degree student was murdered by her classmate in Narasaraopet of Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday leading to tension in the town with students and family members staging a protest, demanding stringent action against the accused.

According to police, the deceased Anusha hailing from Gollapadu village in Muppala mandal was studying in a private college in Narasaraopet town. The accused, Harshavardhan Reddy from Bollapalli in Vinukonda of the district, was also studying in the same college.

According to reports reaching here, Harshavardhan Reddy took the victim on his bike in the afternoon to a secluded place in Palapadu road on the pretext of having a chat. He reportedly had an argument with Anusha and in a fit of rage, strangled her to death and later threw her body into a canal. Later, he surrendered before the Narasaraopet police.

As the news spread, students and family members gathered in large numbers and staged a protest with the body of the girl, demanding stringent action against the accused. They demanded that the accused be handed over to them. Some students also damaged the window panes of the college. Tension is prevailing in the town and additional police forces have been rushed there.
