Visakhapatnam: An accredited social health activist (Asha) worker, Vijaya Lakshmi, suffered a brain stroke in Guntur district on Friday and is battling for life. Incidentally, she had received Covid-19 vaccine shot on January 19, three days before she suffered the stroke.
Her family members have alleged that the vaccine may have triggered the brain stroke. They also said that she developed fever and seizures soon after receiving the vaccination.
Lakshmi, who works at Penumaka village in Tadepalli mandal of Guntur district, has been admitted at government general hospital in Guntur.
Health authorities, however, said the incident has nothing to do with the vaccination. GGH Guntur superintendent Dr G Prabhavati said the patient has suffered a brain stem stroke. “We carried out all radiographic and laboratory investigations after she was brought to the hospital on Friday. Her stroke is not related to Covid-19 vaccine. She is currently being treated in the stroke unit of nurology dpartment. She is otherwise doing fine,” she said. tnn
