AMARAVATI: State election commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar on Friday sought immediate shifting of district collectors of Guntur and Chittoor. The SEC directed that Guntur collector Samuel Anand Kumar and his Chittoor counterpart Bharath Gupta to relieve themselves and hand over charge to the joint collectors.
He also asked Tirupati SP Avula Ramesh Reddy to hand over charge to Chittoor SP, besides removing two DSPs and four circle inspectors from poll duties. Chief secretary Adityanath Das has been asked to submit a panel of three names for appointment of successors to the officials who were removed from election duties.
The SEC had, in fact, asked the state government to remove the officers just before the abrupt adjournment of elections to ZPTCs and MPTCs in March 2020. But as the poll process was put on hold due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the government did not follow the SEC’s orders.
Now, with the high court clearing the decks for conduct of elections to village panchayats, the SEC has cracked the whip and asked the three officers to relinquish duties on their own.
