GUNTUR: District collector Samuel Anand Kumar has directed the authorities of Government General Hospital (GGH), Guntur, electricity and police to take up a comprehensive investigation into the fire mishap that took place in the hospital in the late hours of Wednesday.
The collector said that they would take up modernisation of power supply system at GGH to prevent such incidents in future.
The collector inspected GGH on Thursday and interacted with the officials. He lauded the staff who responded immediately noticing the fire and rescued the patients from the Covid-19 ward and ICU.
He said that they would reward the staff who acted fast to prevent a major mishap in the hospital. “Although it looks like a short circuit in the supply system resulted in the fire, we need to probe thoroughly before coming to a conclusion,” said the collector.
The collector went through all the blocks right from the fuse box where the fire triggered and inspected the cables. He enquired whether the electricity department has submitted its preliminary report on the mishap.
He directed the officials to ready the load testing report to assess the fluctuations at the time of the mishap. Sources said that the police and GGH authorities were looking into sabotage angle after the district collector’s visit.
