Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh reported 1,886 Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, taking the cumulative case load to 8,46,245. This is the second day in a row that the state recorded less than 2,000 cases. The toll increased to 6,814 as 12 more people succumbed to the novel coronavirus disease. As many as 2,151 patients were declared cured on Tuesday. There are currently 20,958 active cases with 8,18,473 cumulative recoveries.
Chittoor reported 291 cases, followed by West Godavari (282), Guntur (275), Krishna (269) and East Godavari (227). Seven districts recorded less than 100 cases. Vizianagaram became the last district to cross the 40,000 case mark on Tuesday. East Godavari has the highest case load of 1,19,157 infections, whereas West Godavari took the distant second place with 89,201 cases.
Of the 12 deaths registered on Tuesday, three each are from Chittoor and Krishna, and one each from Anantapur, East Godavari, Guntur, Prakasam, Visakhapatnam and West Godavari. Eight districts have so far witnessed more than 500 Covid-related casualties. Vizianagaram has the lowest number of fatalities of 230.
Andhra Pradesh so far tested about 88 lakh Covid-19 samples, including 67,910 people screened on Tuesday. The overall case positivity rate came down to below 10 percent, while it has been less than 3% in the last few days.
The average national positivity rate was at 7 percent with Maharashtra leading the table with more than 18% positivity rate. The state’s overall mortality rate stood at 0.8%.
