GUNTUR: Doctors at a private hospital in Guntur performed a rare surgery to reattach a completely cut off leg of a patient. It took nearly 10 hours for the expert team of doctors to replant the leg.
According to information, the victim B Krishnaiah was severely injured in the attack of rivals at Mamillapalli village of Santhamagulur mandal in Prakasam district on Saturday. His left leg was almost severed from the body by the time his family members shifted him to a super specialty hospital in Guntur. “In fact, the victim had received severe injuries with multiple fractures on left hand and left leg. The left leg was just hanging to the body part at the time of admission,” said Dr Immidisetty Maruthi Prasad, renowned cardio-thoracic and vascular surgeon.
He said that it was very sensitive and rare surgery to transplant the organ as it required stitching of vulnerable muscle tissues.
