VISAKHAPATNAM: Andhra Pradesh reported 10,418 Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, taking the cumulative caseload to 5,27,512. The toll rose to 4,634 as 74 more people succumbed to the disease.
About 9,840 people were declared cured on Wednesday. There are currently 97,271 active cases in the state with the 4,25,607 cumulative recoveries and 4,634 deaths, translating to a recovery rate of 81%. West Godavari achieved about 93% recovery rate, the highest among all districts.
With the 1,399 fresh cases on Wednesday, East Godavari became the first district in the state to cross the 70,000 case mark to reach 71,085. Kurnool occupied the distant second place with 49,700 Covid-19 infections, followed by Anantapur 47,126, West Godavari 46,109, Chittoor 45,501, Guntur 42,309, Visakhapatnam 42,032 and Nellore 40,218. Krishna district stood last with 19,414 cases.
On the toll front, Chittoor leads the table with 495 casualties, followed by Guntur 444, East Godavari 437, and Kurnool 406. Vizianagaram recorded 184 deaths.
With the nearly 43 lakh cumulative tests, Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday became the first state in the country to test at least 80,000 people for Covid-19 per every one million population.
In other terms, the state so far tested eight per every hundred people for Covid-19. The mortality rate stood stable at 0.87%, while the case positivity rate increased to 12.24% against the national average of 8.4%.
Of the 74 deaths registered on Wednesday, nine are from Kadapa, seven each from Nellore, Prakasam and Visakhapatnam, six each from Anantapur, Chittoor, Guntur and West Godavari, five each from Krishna, Kurnool and Srikakulam, three from Vizianagaram, and two from East Godavari.
