Vijayawada: A youthful story of online romance ended in suicide after a girl and a boy hanged themselves from the same ceiling fan at Machayapalem village in Bellamkonda mandal in Guntur district on Thursday evening.
According to Bellamkonda sub-inspector Rajesh, the 17-year-old girl and the 20-year-old boy met on TikTok— a video-sharing social media service— 10 months ago and fell in love. However, the girl’s parents were unwilling to accept the relationship.
Cops said that the young boy and the minor girl had taken a house on rent and were living together. But the girl’s parents were so opposed to the relationship that they filed a missing case in Tirupati, where they live.
When the daughter found out about the case, she entreated her parents to withdraw the case. An argument ensued and the girl’s parents said that she was still a minor and was incapable of making such a decision, the sub-inspector told TOI.
On Thursday evening, locals found the two young lovers hanging from a ceiling fan and alerted the cops. Upon reaching the spot, police examined the scene and found a suicide note.
According to the police, the girl blamed her parents for their suicide on the suicide note and claimed that her parents had threatened to kill her. Police said that the girl has named her mother, father and cousin for her taking the extreme step.
A case under Section 174 of the CrPC (suspicious death) was registered at Bellamkonda police station. Police are yet to interrogate the deceased’s family members. Further investigation is currently underway.
