GUNTUR: As many as 39 people including 14 students have tested positive for Covid-19 at Bhatlur village in Guntur district after a teacher, who had been holding private tuition classes, contracted the novel coronavirus. According to officials, 25 parents had also tested positive for Covid-19.
All the children, who tested positive, are below seven years. District health authorities shifted them to a quarantine facility in Guntur. Their condition is stated to be stable. A team of doctors was deputed to the quarantine facility.
The teacher tested positive for Covid-19 two days ago. Since the teacher had been holding tuition classes for the past several weeks, the authorities conducted Covid-19 tests on the children and their parents on Thursday. Sources said 50 students were attending the tuition classes.
District collector I Samuel Anand Kumar directed officials to book the teacher under the Disaster Management Act for violation of the lockdown rules. He directed DMHO Dr Yasmin to coordinate with field officials. He asked the district panchayat officer to take up sanitation drive in the village.
The village has been declared a containment area.
A special health camp was set up to test the residents of Bhatlur. The district administration has advised all those who visited the village and met their kin in the last one week to get themselves tested for Covid-19.
