Vijayawada: The state government has cleared proposal to establish eight special courts to deal with cases under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. It issued orders on Tuesday to establish the eight courts and have judicial and administrative staff for their functioning.
The courts would come up at Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Kurnool, Kadapa, Ananthapur, Bhimavaram (West Godavari), Tenali (Guntur) and Machilipatnam (Krishna), where cases of POCSO Act are pending. The government in September 2019 had already established eight such special courts in Chittoor, East Godavari, Guntur, Krishna, Nellore, Prakasam, Visakhapatnam and West Godavari districts.
Each court was provided with one district judge (Grade II) and 15 staff to assist him. The government had allocated Rs 1.90 crore per year for each court towards recurring expenditure (salaries) and Rs 3 lakh towards contingent expenditure, besides Rs 5 lakh as non-recurring expenditure towards purchase of furniture and other facilities.
The state government has requested the registrar of the High Court to take further steps to establish these special courts and make them operational.
