Guntur: In what could be considered a stunning performance amid the pandemic, the Guntur railway division has reported a goods revenue of Rs 118 crore during the current fiscal, registering a growth of 131% over the corresponding period the previous year. In the first quarter of 2019-20, the division had earned only Rs 51 crore.
Speaking to the media through a video link on Thursday, divisional railway manager (DRM) R Mohan Raja said that the division has been able to make the most of the lack of road transport services during the lockdown and has mopped up additional revenue. He added that the division has also taken pro-active steps to prevail upon existing customers.
“The constitution of a business development unit (BDU) team at the divisional level and five sectional BDU teams, one each at Guntur, Nadikudi, Nalgonda, Narsaraopet and Nandyal, helped us rake up more income through freight loading,” the DRM said.
The DRM further said that the BDU team at the divisional level, which comprises senior officials including senior DOM, senior DCM, senior DME and the senior DFM, is interacting with potential customers to increase freight loading on a regular basis.
He added that the division has convened several Webex meetings with big agricultural products customers of Guntur district and discussed freight concessions being offered by the railways to make them aware that rail freight is cheaper than road freight.
Further, the Guntur railway division has achieved parcel revenue of Rs 1.61 crore during the current fiscal against Rs 1.07 crore last fiscal, registering an incremental growth of 50%, DRM Mohan Raju added.
