GUNTUR: Rajya Sabha member Alla Ayodhya Ramireddy has said that following Gandhi’s principles is the only way to remove inequalities in the society.
He said that Mahatma Gandhi is more relevant in the present situation where the communal forces are vehemently trying to divide the society. Ayodhya Ramireddy participated in a rally organized by Amaravati Institute of Social Sciences (AISS) here on Friday. He appreciated AISS chief and MLC Dokka Manikyavaraprasad for spreading the message of Mahatma Gandhi through a series of programmes for the past several years.
Addressing the meeting, Dokka said that Mahatma Gandhi was not an individual but an institution. He said that Gandhi was in the forefront of the fighting against the caste discrimination decades ago and successfully transformed millions of people.
“We can achieve a peaceful society which could allow every community and religion to co-exist only by following Mahatma’s principles,” said Dokka. He said that Gandhi rejected the dominance of upper-caste communities to achieve equality in India. “It is painful to see that certain communal forces are trying to occupy more space and divide the society on communal lines seven decades after achieving freedom. We can defeat such forces by joining hands with all sections of the people and following Gandhi’s principles,” said Dokka.
Former MP Modugula Venugopala Reddy, agriculture market yard chairman Chandragiri Yesurathnam, Kavati Manohar Naidu, Shaik Showkath, Dasari John Babu and others were present.
All the leaders participated in a rally carrying a banner ‘Waiting for the arrival of Mahatma’ near Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) office centre after garlanding Gandhi’s statue.
