All the patients who tested positive and were staying at a quarantine facility near Guntur have now been shifted to the isolation wards in the Covid-19 hospital. They are all primary and secondary contacts of a cable operator who died of Covid-19 a fortnight ago. All five members from his family tested positive last week.
The district administration has directed officials in Narasaraopet to identity the contacts of patients and shift them to quarantine home. All the 20 cases were reported from Varavakatta, Ramireddy Thota and Palnadu road.
Sources said a doctor from a private hospital, too, is among the 20 patients. The officials are yet to begin identifying the people who visited the doctor in the hospital. As for the identification of the contact cases of the 20 patients, additional police forces have been deployed to escort revenue and health department officials in identifying the suspected cases.
Sources said the first Covid-19 patient, the cable operator, is believed to have visited nearly 250-300 houses in his neighbourhood to collect onthly bills. With many of those in his neighbourhood testing positive, officials are mulling conducting rapid tests in the entire colony. All the three colonies in the town have been declared red zones and sealed. Narasaraopet is the only town in the district to report the highest number of cases after Guntur city.
