GUNTUR: Senior police officials are showering praises on noted homeopathic physician Dr Oruganti Venkata Ramana for saving the lives of several hundreds of police personnel by distributing preventive medicine for Covid-19. Dr Ramana had been providing free consultation and counseling to all the frontline warriors since the outbreak of Covid-19 four months ago. He had set up special centre exclusively to distribute Covid-19 preventive medicine to the general public.
The state government had nominated Dr Ramana to the prestigious trust board of Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy temple of Indrakeeladri in Vijayawada after seeing his humanitarian services to the society. Interestingly, Dr Ramana is family physician for many VIPs including ministers, district collectors and SPs in the state for long. Although, Dr Ramana has several of high-profiled friends in his circles, he dedicated his services to the poor as he had constructed an old-age home and Saibaba temple in the city.
“While department is combating the Covid-19, Dr Ramana has stood up to extend his support to the police welfare fund by giving Rs 1.01 lakh which has enhanced our morale,” said an additional DGP rank IPS officer Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, who headed Vijayawada city police commissionerate till recently. Dr Ramana is committed to selfless services to the society in general and police department in particular, said Tirumala Rao. Interestingly, Dr Ramana had personally handed over nearly one lakh doses of Covid-19 preventive medicine to both Vijayawada and Guntur district police chiefs.
Another senior IPS officer Dr PHD Ramakrishna said that Dr Ramana gave them Rs 1.01 lakh to procure PPE kits for the frontline warriors in the department who are working in the containment zones. “It is really great services to the department as well as the society,” said Ramakrishna. He said that Dr Ramana had also gifted them several masks and homeo pills to save the police from falling prey to the virus.
“Dr Ramana had always been in forefront in helping the poor and needy. He was chiefly responsible for renovating the prestigious SPS high school and donate books and furniture to the students in the past. Now, he had not only distributed preventing drugs to the locals but also took up aggressive campaign on safety measures to be taken up to protect from Covid-19,” said a senior citizen AVD Sarma.
