VISAKHAPATNAM: Andhra Pradesh on Thursday registered 1,555 Covid-19 cases, the highest single day spike ever, and 13 deaths. With this, the total number of Covid-19 cases in the state has gone up to 23,814 while the toll increased to 277.
A total of 16,822 samples were tested between 9 am on Wednesday and 9 am on Thursday. Of them, 1,500 people from within the state, 53 from other states and two foreign returnees tested positive for the pandemic virus.
Three deaths each were reported from Kurnool and Guntur districts, while two deaths each were reported from Anantapur and Prakasam districts. Krishna, West Godavari and Chittoor districts saw one death each.
On Thursday, four of the 13 districts in the state recorded more than 200 Covid-19 cases. Of them, Chittoor topped the list with 236 cases followed by Guntur district (228), Vizag (208) and Srikakulam (206). With the 236 fresh cases, the cumulative cases in Chittoor stand at 2,001 making it the sixth district in the state to breach the 2,000 mark.
Krishna and Kadapa districts recorded more than 100 Covid-19 cases on Thursday. With 127 fresh cases, the cumulative cases in Krishna district crossed the 2,000 mark. The total number of cases in the district now stands at 2,095.
With the 208 new cases in Vizag, the total number of cases in Vizag district has increased to 1,191. As of Thursday, nine districts have more than 1,000 Covid-19 cases each.
On a good note, a total of 1,053 persons, including 904 from within the state, 120 from other states and 29 foreign returnees recovered from the Covid-19. They were discharged from various hospitals. The total number of discharged persons increased to 12,154 while the active cases now stand at 11,383.
