VISAKHAPATNAM: Andhra Pradesh reported 8,555 Covid-19 cases on Sunday, taking the cumulative caseload to 1,58,764. The death toll rose to 1,474 with 67 more people succumbing to the pandemic virus. As many as 6,272 Covid-19 patients were declared cured on Sunday. There are currently 74,404 active cases in Andhra Pradesh with the 82,886 cumulative recoveries and 1,474 deaths.
Of the 67 deaths, 11 are from Krishna district, eight from Guntur, seven each from East Godavari and Visakhapatnam, six each from Kurnool and Nellore, five from Srikakulam, four from Prakasam, three each from Chittoor, Kadapa and Vizianagaram, and two each from Anantapur and West Godavari.
Visakhapatnam reported a record 1,227 fresh cases on Sunday, followed by Kurnool 996 and East Godavari 930.
The state tested 52,834 samples (33,679 tests through RT-PCR and Truenat and 19,155 tests through rapid antigen kits) and detected 8,555 cases. AP has been leveraging the rapid antigen kits for the last few weeks to test more people. It has so far conducted 20.65 lakh tests with an overall positivity rate of 7.69 percent. The overall mortality rate stood at 0.92%.
Seven districts have at least 10,000 cases, including East Godavari, Kurnool 19,077, Anantapur 16,523, Guntur 16,308, West Godavari 13,354, Visakhapatnam 13,147 and Chittoor 12,108. On the Covid-19 toll front, Kurnool recorded 207 deaths, followed by East Godavari 179, Krishna 175, Guntur 149, Anantapur 122, Visakhapatnam 120, and Chittoor 117. Andhra Pradesh continued to remain on the top in the number of tests per every million population.
