VISAKHAPATNAM: Andhra Pradesh registered 10 deaths and its highest single-day spike of 605 Covid-19 cases on Friday, with the recovery rate going down due to a spurt of new cases. While the Covid-19 caseload jumped to 11,489, four each in Krishna and Kurnool, and one each in Guntur and Visakhapatnam districts, succumbed to the pandemic virus, increasing the toll to 146.
Altogether 208 patients were declared cured and discharged from various hospitals in the state on Friday. There are 6,147 active cases in Andhra Pradesh with 5,196 cumulative recoveries.
The recovery rate has further decreased to 45% with a sudden spurt in the cases in the last three weeks. Kadapa district alone contributed 133 new cases on Friday, followed by West Godavari 79, Anantapur 79, Guntur 74 and Kurnool 60.
The state tested nearly 22,300 samples and the overall positivity rate of the state stands at 1.45%, with the 7.91 lakh cumulative tests identifying 11,489 cases
After Krishna, Guntur, Anantapur and Kurnool districts, East Godavari also crossed the 1,000-case mark. These five districts account for nearly 62% local infections. Srikakulam district has only 62 local cases, while Vizianagaram district recorded 122 local cases. Of the 1764 cases identified among the people, who returned from other states, 1,092 people had already recovered from the disease.
The recovery rate is only 22% among the foreign returnees, who tested positive for the disease.
Krishna district has the highest number of Covid-19 casualties of 49, followed by Kurnool 48 and Guntur 17. The number of deaths has increased in the last one week in Andhra Pradesh, corresponding with the spurt.
The local district administrations have been currently conducting a fever survey to identify the suspected cases.
