GUNTUR: The officials unearthed an unauthorized Covid-care centre at a private resort in Mangalagiri. The resort is located just few kilometres away from the state police headquarters in Mangalagiri and secretariat in Velagapudi. Some of the Covid-19 positive patients getting treated the at the centre fled the spot soon after the officials started searches on the resort.
A team of officials comprising revenue, police, municipal and health departments carried out the searches on the unauthorized covid-care centre late on Monday evening upon a tip-off. The officials were stunned at the way the private people lured Covid-19 positive patients in the guise of providing treatment at a resort.
Sources said that the resort was taken on a lease by a non-medical professional who worked in a covid-care hospital cum medical college located in China Kakani village in Mangalagiri mandal and opened the Covid-19 care centre without securing any permissions from the officials. He reported to have lured the asymptomatic patients promising better care under the close supervision of the doctors working in the Covid-19 hospital. Surprisingly, no medical officer had ever visited the Covid-care centre since it was started functioning about a fortnight ago.
The inmates of the Covid-19 care centre told the police during the investigation that the organisers collected Rs.30-50 thousand fee for treatment between 5-10 days. The fee is believed to be inclusive of treatment, food and accommodation.
About 40-50 patients were believed to have joined the centre with a hope to get better treatment. Officials were surprised to see people joining the unauthorized centre even after a major fire killing 11 Covid-19 patients at a similar unauthorized Covid-19 care centre in Source link
