VISAKHAPATNAM: Andhra Pradesh on Thursday registered 182 Covid-19 cases as the tally rose to 5,429. The state also saw two deaths, taking the toll to 80.
The state had recorded its first Covid-19 case on March 12, exactly three months ago. Since then, there has been a spurt in positive cases with the state’s tally crossing the 5,000-mark.
AP achieved yet another milestone in its fight against Covid-19 on Thursday by testing over five lakh people. Medical and family welfare officials said 11,602 samples were tested since Wednesday morning. Of them, 135 local people had tested positive. Another 38 people, who returned to Andhra Pradesh from other states, and nine foreign returnees, too tested positive.
Meanwhile, 99 Covid-19 affected persons, including 31 migrant workers, and three foreign returnees recovered from the disease since Wednesday. They were discharged from various hospitals in the state.
The number of people discharged so far stands at 2,968, including 407 people from other states and 21 foreign returnees). With this, the total number of active cases in the state stands at 2,381 (1,641 from Andhra Pradesh, 564 and 176 from other states and foreign returnees, respectively).
On the Covid-19 toll front, Kurnool district has reported 28 Covid-19 deaths (highest in the state) followed by Krishna district with 25 deaths and Guntur district with nine deaths.
Anantapur reported five Covid-19 deaths while four deaths each in Nellore, Chittoor and East Godavari districts were reported. Visakhapatnam district registered one death.
The number of samples tested in the state now stands at 5,10,318.
