GUNTUR: At least 14 children and a private teacher in Bhatlur village of Sattenapalle mandal tested positive for Covid-19.
The incident created ripples in the village as about 25 others, including the parents of the children, also tested positive for the virus.
With all the children contracted the virus are below 7 years age, the authorities shifted them to quarantine facility in Guntur.
However, the condition of all the children and others who tested positive for Covid-19 is said to be stable. A team of doctors have been deputed to the quarantine facility where the children were housed to closely monitor their health condition.
The issue came to light after a few children started suffering from fever prompting the authorities to conduct the Covid-19 tests on Thursday. The results of the reports left the authorities stunned with nearly 39 cases, including 14 children turning positive from the village.
Sources said that about 50 students attended the private tuitions in the village during the lockdown period.
District collector, I Samuel Anand Kumar directed the officials to book the teacher under disaster management Act for violation of lockdown rules.
He directed the DMHO Yasmin to closely coordinate the issue with the field officials and asked the district panchayath officer to take up sanitation drive in the village. A high alert was sounded in the village by declaring it a containment zone.
