Guntur: The state women and child welfare commissionerate in Guntur was closed after 33 employees tested positive for Covid-19.
According to information, a senior officer in the commissionerate tested positive two days ago. The senior officer used to travel frequently to Hyderabad.
Nearly 130 employees in the commissionerate were tested on Friday and the results were sent to the individuals on Sunday.
Secretary of women and child welfare, directed the commissionerate officials to declare a holiday on Monday in order to carry out disinfection operations in the office.
The entire area of women and child welfare commissionerate was contained by civic officials. After finding that majority of the employees of the women and child welfare department were residing in apartments in Brodipet area, the district administration declared the entire area as a red zone.
The Brodipet area, consisting of just nine lanes, has reported nearly 95 positive cases for Covid-19. Besides the employees from the women welfare department, scores of students staying in the boys hostels in the area also tested positive in the last four days.
Meanwhile, 197 new Covid-19 cases were reported in Guntur district on Monday and the district has 1,229 active cases at present, after the treatment and discharge of 775 patients.
