Vijayawada: Guntur district sub-jail officer R V Prasad on Thursday suspended Tenali sub-jail superintendent Ramulu Naik and two jail wardens, Chittibabu and K Ranga Rao, after an undertrial was found dead under suspicious circumstances on Wednesday.
According to police sources, the incident happened on Wednesday when R Veera Sankara Rao (50), a murder accused, was found hanging from the window of his prison cell.
Cops said that the accused used his own shirt to create the noose around his neck. Soon after his suicide attempt, jail officials tried to rush him to Tenali Government General Hospital and later to Guntur Government General Hospital where he was declared brought dead.
Explaining the details of Shankara Rao’s case, Kollipara police said that he along with his wife Narasamma were involved in allegedly killing a woman by stabbing her to death over a personal dispute on June 11.
Later, on June 15 cops managed to trace an absconding Veera Shankara Rao and arrested him and produced him before the court which remanded him for a 14-day judicial custody.
Cops said that they are yet to trace Narasamma who is named accused number two in the same case. Cops said that Shankara Rao was suffering from health issues and suspect that he took the extreme step due to that. A case under section 174 of CrPC (suspicious death) was registered at Tenali police station. tnn
